What should I do before you arrive?

If it is safe to reach the switchboard, turn off the affected circuit or the main switch. Keep people and pets away from the area, do not touch anything sparking or wet, and do not attempt to reset a breaker that keeps tripping.

My safety switch keeps tripping. Is that an emergency?

It is a warning. A safety switch trips because it has detected current leaking to earth, which is the fault most likely to injure someone. Repeatedly resetting it without finding the cause is not safe.

The power is out — is it my problem or the network's?

If your neighbours are also out, it is almost certainly a network outage and your distributor is the one to call. If it is only your property, the fault is on your side and worth having looked at.

Do you attend after hours?

Call us and we will tell you what we can do and how soon. Urgent faults are treated as urgent.

Overview

Some electrical problems can wait for a booking. Others cannot. A burning smell from a switchboard, a hot power point, exposed or damaged cabling, or water through an electrical installation are all safety issues before they are inconvenience.

If something is sparking, smoking or has been damaged by water or storm, switch it off at the board if it is safe to reach, keep people away from it, and call us. Do not attempt to investigate it yourself.
